Anti-Terror Sweep: Intelligence Operations Lead to Arrest of Suspected Dawla Islamiya Operative in Isabela

ILAGAN CITY, ISABELA, Philippines — In a major blow to regional terror networks, joint government forces successfully apprehended a suspected high-ranking operative of the Dawla Islamiya (DI) during a coordinated intelligence-led sweep in Isabela province early Saturday morning. The operation, conducted on April 11, 2026, marks one of the most significant counter-terrorism successes in Northern Luzon this year.

Acting on actionable intelligence gathered over several months, elite units from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Intelligence Group and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) 5th Infantry Division executed a surgical strike in a remote sub-village of San Mariano.

The arrest details reveal that the suspect, identified by the alias "Abu Jihad," is considered a high-value target and a key logistics coordinator for Dawla Islamiya factions across the Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon. During the operation, security forces seized significant evidence, including a .45 caliber pistol, IED components, blasting caps, and "subversive documents" outlining recruitment targets.

The execution of the arrest was the result of a coordinated strike based on outstanding warrants for multiple counts of murder and violations of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

The breakthrough reportedly came from the "de-coding" of digital communications seized during a previous operation in Mindanao last March. This allowed investigators to track "Abu Jihad’s" movements as he reportedly attempted to establish a "support cell" in the northern provinces.

"This arrest is a testament to the seamless coordination between our intelligence units and the community," said Major General Roberto Capulong, Commander of the 5th Infantry Division. "We have effectively cut off a vital artery that was being used to funnel extremist influence into Northern Luzon."

The strategic impact of this operation is significant, primarily through the disruption of recruitment efforts aimed at vulnerable youth populations for potential "lone wolf" attacks. By removing a key logistics coordinator, the military has achieved a state of logistical crippling, severely hindering the group's ability to transport IED components between regions.

Furthermore, the success of the mission underscores the power of community vigilance, as local leaders in Isabela provided the critical "final mile" of intelligence that allowed authorities to pinpoint and neutralize the suspect's exact hideout.

While the arrest is a milestone, the PNP has placed the entire Cagayan Valley on "High Alert" to preempt any retaliatory actions from remaining DI remnants.

The capture of "Abu Jihad" follows a broader national directive to dismantle terror cells before the mid-year election cycle. PNP Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. reiterated that the government's "Anti-Terror Sweep" will continue until all high-value targets are accounted for.

"Our message to these lawless elements is clear: there is no corner of this country where you can hide from the law," Nartatez stated in a press briefing following the operation. The suspect is currently being held at a high-security facility in Camp Adduru, Tuguegarao City, for further interrogation by the Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC).
