MAIDUGURI, Borno State — Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a large-scale insurgent assault on a strategic community in Borno State, neutralizing 24 terrorists in a fierce midnight gun battle. While the Nigerian Army maintained control of the area, two soldiers were wounded during the exchange and are currently receiving medical stabilization.
The engagement began late Wednesday night when a large group of suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters launched a coordinated raid on a community in the northern fringes of the Sambisa Forest. Eyewitnesses reported that the insurgents arrived on motorcycles and foot, attempting to infiltrate the residential perimeter under the cover of darkness.
Alert troops stationed at a nearby Forward Operating Base (FOB) responded within minutes. The ensuing firefight lasted over two hours, as soldiers’ utilized superior firepower and tactical positioning to force the attackers into a disadvantageous retreat.
Following the engagement, a morning "mop-up" operation revealed the extent of the insurgent defeat, with 24 bodies recovered from the surrounding bush. Troops also seized a significant cache of hardware, including AK-47 rifles, multiple boxes of ammunition, and communication devices used to coordinate the failed assault.
While the mission was a success, two gallant soldiers sustained gunshot wounds during the counter-charge; they were swiftly evacuated to a military medical facility in Maiduguri, where they remain in stable condition.
Security analysts suggest that this latest attack is part of an attempt by insurgent factions to regain control over lost supply routes and terrorize local populations into submission. However, the decisive response by the Nigerian Army highlights the increasing effectiveness of Operation Hadin Kai's rapid-deployment units.
"Our troops showed exceptional gallantry in protecting the lives of the villagers," a military source stated. "We remain committed to ensuring that no community in Borno falls back under the shadow of terror."
