NEW DELHI — A high-stakes security breach sent the Delhi Legislative Assembly into a total lockdown on Monday afternoon, April 6, 2026, after a masked man in a white SUV rammed through the complex’s VVIP entrance. The audacious incursion, which occurred around 2:00 PM, has exposed significant lapses in the multi-layered security protocols of the national capital’s high-security zone.
The intruder, driving a white Tata Sierra with Uttar Pradesh registration, forcefully breached Gate No. 2, shattering the iron gates and a boom barrier before speeding toward the heart of the legislative complex.
In a turn of events that has baffled investigators; the driver did not immediately flee after the crash. Instead, he proceeded directly to the office of Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta.
According to CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, the masked intruder stepped from the vehicle to calmly place a flower bouquet near the Speaker’s car before reversing at high speed through the damaged gates to escape. The entire episode lasted approximately five minutes, prompting an immediate response from the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS). After a thorough inspection, authorities confirmed that the bouquet contained no explosives or hazardous materials.
The breach triggered an immediate city-wide alert, involving the Delhi Police Special Cell and the Crime Branch. Within two hours of the incident, authorities traced the vehicle to North Delhi.
Authorities have currently detained Sarbjit Singh, the registered owner of the vehicle, for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
