Inaayah Makda, a seven-year-old girl, has gone missing after being swept out to sea by a wave while on a family holiday in Casablanca, Morocco. The incident occurred on January 29, 2026, during the family's first day of a week-long trip.
According to her father, Zubair Makda, the family was sitting on rocks by the beach when a sudden wave crashed over them, causing chaos. Zubair described the moment, stating, “We got swept to the right, and she got swept to the left... I couldn't find her at all.” While other family members managed to return to shore, Inaayah was quickly lost from sight.
The family is devastated and has reported that there were no warning signs about the potential danger of waves in the area. A relative expressed the family's distress, emphasizing their urgency in locating Inaayah and raising concerns about the lack of immediate response from local authorities. They turned to a private search operator to assist in the ongoing efforts.
Adnan Hussain, the MP for Blackburn, has been supporting the family and raising their case with UK authorities, including the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO). He conveyed his heartbreak over the situation, stating, “This is an utterly heartbreaking and deeply distressing situation. My thoughts are with the family.”
The school headteacher and the Masters of Martial Arts Blackburn club, where Inaayah is a student, have expressed their shock and offered support, praying for her safe return.
As search efforts continue, the family's plight highlights significant concerns about safety at tourist locations and the need for better communication regarding potential hazards. Local and international authorities are now under pressure to assist in locating Inaayah in what has become a highly emotional and urgent situation.
