SOUTHERN LEBANON – A fragile 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah has been pushed to the brink following a deadly explosion in Southern Lebanon on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that a reservist was killed and nine others were wounded after an engineering vehicle triggered an explosive device during operations in an IDF-controlled sector.

The incident marks the second fatal blast involving Israeli forces since the U.S.-brokered truce took effect at midnight on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

The fatal incident occurred near the village of Kafr Kila as troops from the 769th "Hiram" Regional Brigade conducted engineering and search operations. According to initial military probes, a D-9 armored bulldozer triggered an explosive device planted by Hezbollah, with the resulting blast striking a group of soldiers securing the machinery.

The IDF identified the fallen soldier as Sgt. First Class (res.) Lidor Porat, 31, while nine others were injured—one seriously—and airlifted to Israeli hospitals for treatment. In immediate retaliation, Israeli forces launched strikes against several nearby targets, including a cell identified as violating ceasefire protocols by approaching military positions.

Military officials are now urgently investigating whether the explosives involved in recent fatalities were newly planted in direct violation of the ceasefire or are "legacy" mines left behind from previous hostilities.
