Egypt’s Lifeline Persists: 177th Humanitarian Convoy Delivers 5,300 Tons of Aid to Gaza

RAFAH, EGYPT — Amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, Egypt has dispatched its 177th relief convoy as part of the sustained "Zad Al-Izza" (Provisions of Dignity) initiative. This latest mission, which crossed through the Rafah and Kerem Abu Salem points on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, represents one of the most substantial aid packages in recent months, totaling more than 5,300 tons of life-saving supplies.

The Egyptian Red Crescent confirmed that the 177th mission was specifically tailored to address deteriorating conditions in the enclave. The massive delivery included over 2,500 tons of essential food supplies and 1,200 tons of urgent medications for over-capacity hospitals. Crucially, the convoy provided an energy lifeline of nearly 1,600 tons of petroleum products to power vital hospital generators and water desalination plants.

Coordinated through the Tahya Misr Fund and the ERC, the "Zad Al-Izza" campaign has now surpassed a total of 900,000 tons of aid since the conflict's inception. Despite the logistical challenges and shifting security landscapes, Egyptian authorities emphasized that the Rafah crossing remains a permanent gateway for relief.

"Our mission is not just about the volume of aid, but the consistency of the lifeline," an ERC logistics coordinator stated. "The 177th convoy is a testament to the 65,000 volunteers working around the clock to ensure these supplies reach those in the most desperate conditions."

Recognizing the continued displacement of nearly two million people, the convoy also carried heavy-duty weatherproofing materials. This includes roughly 15,000 tents and 25,000 winter clothing kits, addressing the immediate needs of families living in makeshift camps as the region faces unpredictable weather patterns.

As the international community calls for expanded aid corridors, Egypt’s structured convoy system remains the primary conduit for humanitarian relief. Local officials noted that the 178th convoy is already in the final stages of loading in Cairo, with plans to deploy before the week’s end.

The arrival of the 5,300 tons of aid comes at a pivotal moment, as regional health authorities warn that without this steady influx of fuel and medicine, the remaining functional medical facilities in Gaza could face total collapse within days.
