TOLYATTI — A massive wave of over 100 Ukrainian long-range drones penetrated deep into the Russian Federation overnight, striking critical chemical and metallurgical hubs across multiple regions. The coordinated "drone blitz" targeted the KuibyshevAzot plant in Tolyatti and the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant in occupied Luhansk, marking one of the most significant blows to Russia’s military-industrial supply chain this year.
In the Samara region, residents of Tolyatti reported at least five powerful explosions as a swarm of drones targeted the KuibyshevAzot facility, a full-cycle powerhouse and one of Russia’s top ten nitrogen enterprises. The plant is a critical industrial hub, producing ammonia, urea, and ammonium nitrate—substances essential for both the agricultural sector and the manufacturing of explosives.
Initial reports from monitoring channels indicate that Workshop No. 11, a key unit for polymer and caprolactam production, sustained a direct hit during the raid. By dawn, thick, dark-gray plumes of smoke dominated the Tolyatti skyline, signaling the destruction of specialized units that directly impacts the production of high-strength synthetic fibers used in Russia’s automotive and aerospace sectors.
Simultaneously, a separate "flock" of low-flying UAVs struck the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant in occupied eastern Ukraine, where local sources suggest that Russian air defenses failed to engage the incoming drones.
The precision strike successfully hit a primary substation and several industrial units at a facility that has been repurposed to manufacture artillery shell casings and armored steel for the Russian occupation army. This hit on the adjacent substation triggered a widespread regional blackout, plunging Alchevsk and several neighboring cities into total darkness and effectively paralyzing both military logistics and local infrastructure.
This massive operation was not confined to the industrial heartland. Governor Yuriy Slyusar of the Rostov region reported that over 60 drones targeted the city of Taganrog, where falling debris damaged nearly 40 buildings and claimed at least one life. Further strikes were recorded in Krasnodar, where a drone crashed into a residential high-rise, and in the Belgorod and Voronezh regions.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have "intercepted and destroyed" 102 drones overnight, yet the fires raging at KuibyshevAzot and Alchevsk tell a different story. By systematically targeting the chemical and metallurgical backbone of the Russian war effort, Ukraine is moving beyond the "oil war" and into a phase of comprehensive industrial attrition.
