MEDINA — A somber cloud has fallen over the holy city of Medina following the tragic death of a young Libyan boy at the Arkan Al Manar Hotel. The child, whose family was visiting the Kingdom, reportedly fell from a balcony on the seventh floor of the hotel, located in the central district near the Prophet’s Mosque.
The tragedy unfolded late Sunday evening at the Arkan Al Manar Hotel, a popular destination for international pilgrims and visitors. The victim, a young Libyan boy traveling with his family, reportedly climbed onto a seventh-floor balcony railing before losing his balance and falling.
The incident sent shockwaves through the hotel’s guests and staff, prompting an immediate call to emergency services. Despite the rapid arrival of paramedics, the child was tragically pronounced dead upon reaching the hospital.
Saudi authorities have cordoned off the area around the hotel as a standard investigative procedure. Local police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing hotel management to determine if safety standards were met and how the child was able to access the balcony’s edge.
The Libyan Consulate in Saudi Arabia has been notified and is reportedly providing administrative and emotional support to the grieving family. "Our hearts go out to the family during this unimaginable time," a representative stated briefly to local reporters.
As news of the tragedy spread, fellow travelers and residents of Medina gathered near the hotel to offer prayers. The Arkan Al Manar, usually a place of spiritual reflection for those visiting the Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, has become a site of quiet mourning.
"It is a reminder of how quickly life can change," said one witness. "The family came here for peace and prayer; we are all devastated for them."
