Horror in Macherla: Government Employee Brutally Assaulted at Knifepoint in Andhra Pradesh

MACHERLA — A wave of shock and indignation has swept through Palnadu district after a 35-year-old government employee was subjected to a gruesome assault inside her own home on Thursday afternoon of April 2, 2026. The victim was reportedly raped at knifepoint before the assailant used an iron rod to inflict further internal injuries. The incident occurred in the town of Macherla, where the woman, an attendant in a government department, lives alone.

According to the Macherla police, the horror began between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. The unidentified assailant reportedly knocked on the victim's door under the guise of asking for a glass of drinking water. When the woman turned to help, the man forced his way inside.

The attacker reportedly gained entry to the home by deception before violently overpowering the woman, gagging and tying her with a scarf and cloth to prevent her from raising an alarm. Once she was restrained, he threatened her with a knife and proceeded to sexually assault her despite her desperate pleas for mercy. In a final act of cruelty, the assailant used an iron rod to assault her private parts before fleeing the scene, leaving her severely injured until she was later discovered by relatives.

In a heartbreaking detail revealed by investigators, the woman reportedly tried to deter the attacker by claiming she suffered from a chronic infectious disease, but the plea failed to stop the brutality.

The crime came to light when the victim’s nephew, who lives with her but was away visiting family, became concerned after she failed to answer multiple phone calls. He alerted relatives in the area, who rushed to the house only to find her unconscious and in a pool of blood. She was immediately transported to the Macherla Government Hospital and later shifted to the Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH) for specialized gynecological care.

"Her condition is currently stable," stated Dr. Srinivas Prasad, GGH in-charge superintendent. "She is under close observation, and fortunately, the physical assault did not cause permanent life-threatening damage to her internal organs."

The Palnadu district police have responded to the incident with extreme gravity, immediately deploy multiple special teams under the leadership of SP B. Krishna Rao to track down the perpetrator. The investigation has already gained significant traction, with authorities identifying a key individual of interest and launching an extensive manhunt to secure an arrest.

Investigators are currently conducting a detailed analysis of CCTV footage recovered from the surrounding areas to reconstruct the suspect's movements. Meanwhile, the case has sparked a strong political reaction, with the Macherla MLA publicly demanding "exemplary punishment" for the assailant to ensure justice is served swiftly.

Local activists and residents have staged small protests, demanding better security for women living alone and faster judicial processing for such heinous crimes. The identity of the victim remains protected under Supreme Court guidelines.
