The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. local time, while the family was busy with household chores. According to preliminary reports, the toddler, identified as Ananya, had been playing in the courtyard before wandering unnoticed into the bathroom.

The family became alarmed when the usual sounds of play ceased. Upon searching the house, her mother discovered the child unresponsive, head-first in a large plastic tub that had been filled for laundry. Despite immediate efforts to resuscitate her and a frantic dash to a nearby private hospital, doctors declared the child "brought dead" upon arrival.

Medical professionals at the facility noted that the cause of death was "secondary drowning" caused by the aspiration of water into the lungs.
