In response to a critical shortage of liquefied natural gas (LNG) resulting from escalating tensions in the Middle East, India has announced plans to significantly ramp up its coal usage this summer. The decision is aimed at ensuring a stable power supply during peak demand periods, particularly as temperatures soar.

Indian officials revealed that the country will enhance coal production and distribution to meet anticipated electricity needs. “Given the current geopolitical challenges affecting LNG supplies, maximizing coal use becomes essential for maintaining energy security,” stated Energy Minister Arun Patel.
