Israel Targets Iran’s Isfahan Missile Facility in Major Airstrike

JERUSALEM — The Israel Defense Forces said its air force carried out a major airstrike on military targets in central Iran, including facilities in and around Isfahan, as part of a broad campaign against Iranian missile and security infrastructure.

In a statement released on Monday, March 09, 2026, Israel’s military said warplanes struck missile launch sites, internal security command centers and production facilities used by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and Basij forces. Among the targets hit were long range ballistic missile launch sites and a rocket engine production facility, along with internal security headquarters and other military infrastructure in the Isfahan region that, according to the military, posed a threat to Israeli security.

The operation — described by Israeli officials as part of an ongoing offensive against Iran’s military capabilities — was the first such wave of strikes announced since Iran named a new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. Israel says degrading Iran’s missile and defense networks is central to reducing the risk of future attacks on its territory.

Israeli air operations have targeted hundreds of sites in Iran over recent days, with strikes reported in Tehran, Isfahan, southern Iran and other regions as part of what the military calls a coordinated effort to weaken Iran’s ability to wage war. According to military sources, a significant number of Iranian ballistic missile launchers have been destroyed or rendered inoperable.

Iran has responded with its own missile and drone strikes against Israeli and U.S. forces in the region, contributing to an escalating conflict that has drawn global concern. Iran’s government has condemned the strikes as violations of its sovereignty, and tensions remain high with no immediate ceasefire in sight.

The latest airstrike marks a significant escalation in the conflict between the two countries, illustrating how military operations are expanding deeper into Iranian territory as Israel seeks to disrupt Tehran’s strategic capabilities.
