MAGA-Friendly ‘Rock The Country’ Event in Anderson Canceled After Bands Drop Out, Politics Cited

On February 6, 2026, the anticipated “Rock The Country” multiday concert, which was set to feature prominent country artists like Kid Rock and Jason Aldean, was abruptly canceled after multiple acts announced their withdrawal. The festival was initially slated for July 25-26 and was expected to generate significant economic benefits for Anderson County.

Anderson County Administrator Rusty Burns confirmed the event's cancellation on February 5, emphasizing that no explicit reason was provided by the organizers. However, online discussions suggested that the political atmosphere surrounding the event may have played a role in the decisions of artists to step down.

One of the most notable withdrawals came from the rock band Shinedown, which stated on their social media that they wished to avoid "further division." Their announcement expressed a commitment to unity through music, prompting both support and criticism from fans.

Joining Shinedown in dropping out were country musicians Morgan Wade and Carter Faith, as well as rapper Ludacris, although their specific reasons remained undisclosed. In addition, Creed, another significant act, was silently removed from the lineup just as the festival was called off.

The absence of these bands significantly diminished the anticipated drawing power of the festival, which, in its first year in 2024, attracted around 25,000 attendees and generated approximately $17 million for the local economy.

While the Rock The Country event was primarily marketed as a music celebration, it was intertwined with MAGA-friendly sentiments. Kid Rock, who has been a vocal supporter of Donald Trump, has infused the festival with a distinct counter-cultural ethos, often criticizing progressive policies.

Despite the cancellation, the tour still plans to continue in other cities, including Bellville, Texas, and Hastings, Michigan, among others, with several high-profile artists still on the roster.

The fallout from this cancellation highlights the increasing pressures artists face in choosing to align themselves with events that potentially draw significant political scrutiny, particularly in today's polarized climate. Anderson County officials expressed hope to secure different artists for future events despite this setback.

Burns remarked, “We had a good two-year run, but it happens in the business.”
