KYIV, Ukraine — A major Russian drone strike overnight hit multiple targets across Ukraine, including a SBU site in Lviv and residential and commercial buildings in Odesa, authorities and officials reported on Thursday, March 19, 2026.
According to Ukrainian officials, more than 130 Russian drones were launched in a coordinated overnight barrage. One of the main impacts struck the SBU’s regional headquarters in Lviv, damaging security infrastructure and prompting a security response, although Ukrainian air defenses were able to intercept many of the incoming drones.
In the southern port city of Odesa, the drone assault caused extensive damage to dozens of buildings across several districts, including apartment blocks, offices, and other structures, firing residents and first responders into action to contain fires and secure the area.
Local officials confirmed that at least three people were injured in Odesa, with two reportedly hospitalized for treatment after collapsing debris and secondary explosions from the blasts. Emergency services worked through the night to provide medical care and assess building safety.
Eyewitness videos and social media posts showed flames and smoke rising above the city’s skyline as residents were urged to seek shelter under repeated air raid alerts. Authorities stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance, noting that additional drones were launched toward other Ukrainian regions in the same wave.
The attack adds to a series of large scale Russian drone and missile operations against Ukrainian infrastructure in recent weeks, part of a campaign that has targeted energy grids, civilian buildings, and government sites across multiple oblasts. Ukrainian air defenses have reported shooting down the majority of drones in such barrages, but the number of impacts on populated areas has risen.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other Ukrainian leaders condemned the strikes, saying they demonstrated Russia’s intent to continue pressure on urban centers and critical infrastructure. They called for sustained international support in air defense capabilities and humanitarian assistance.
Over the past months, Russia has repeatedly employed drones to strike deep inside Ukraine, forcing civilians into shelters and damaging cultural, residential, and governmental infrastructure from Lviv in the west to Odesa in the south. Ukrainian authorities say these attacks are meant to strain defenses and weaken public morale.
