STUTTGART, Germany — United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has confirmed that a massive search and rescue operation is currently underway following the disappearance of two U.S. service members. The personnel went missing during a scheduled multi-national military exercise conducted along the coast of East Africa late yesterday evening.

The incident occurred during a complex nighttime training maneuver designed to enhance maritime security and interoperability between partner nations. The two service members were reportedly participating in a water-based transfer exercise when communication was lost.

Upon realizing the personnel were unaccounted for; commanders immediately halted all training activities to pivot toward an active recovery mission.
