The Seattle Police Department has identified a suspect in the homicide of a University of Washington (UW) student, a 19-year-old transgender woman, who was fatally stabbed in the laundry room of the Nordheim Court Apartments on May 10, 2026. As part of their investigation, police have released images of the suspect, described as a light-skinned Black male, approximately 5'7" with a thin build.

The suspect was seen wearing a long-sleeve dark blue full-zip shirt adorned with a light triangle emblem, a white collared shirt underneath, dirty blue jeans, and dark shoes. He has short black hair, wears dark-rimmed eyeglasses, and has a goatee with ingrown scruff around the jaw.

The urgent call for public help comes as police consider the individual armed and dangerous. Detective Eric Munoz emphasized the need for community vigilance, urging anyone who may have seen the suspect or has further information to call 911 or the Seattle Police Homicide Tip Line at 206-233-5000.

The tragedy occurred just after 10 p.m. on Sunday, when UW police responded to reports of the stabbing. Despite attempts to revive her by officers and firefighters, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the wake of this incident, many students have expressed concerns regarding campus safety. Reports indicate that there may have been prior security issues at the complex, including a recent break-in, prompting some students to voice their frustrations and fears regarding safety protocols in off-campus housing.

UW President Robert J. Jones acknowledged the impact this violence has on the campus community, especially in its potential effects on LGBTQIA+ students. “When violence affects a trans person, it can be especially worrying to our community,” he stated.

Community members have begun to memorialize the victim at the apartment complex, leaving flowers and tributes in the aftermath of her tragic death.
