Seconds from Tragedy: Kuwait Fire Force Rescues Man from Jaber Causeway Plunge

KUWAIT CITY — A major tragedy was averted on Thursday morning, April 23, 2026, when Kuwait Fire Force (KFF) sea rescue units successfully pulled a man from the waters of the Arabian Gulf following a suspected suicide attempt from the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Causeway.

The incident began shortly before dawn when commuters on the 36-kilometer bridge—one of the longest maritime causeways in the world—reported seeing a vehicle parked in the emergency lane. Witnesses described a man climbing the safety railing and plunging into the sea before they could intervene.

KFF’s Central Operations Room immediately dispatched the Shuwaikh Fire and Sea Rescue Station and the Salmiya Sea Rescue Station to the coordinates.

Given the height of the causeway and the unpredictable currents of the Bay of Kuwait, every second was critical. Rescue boats arrived on the scene within minutes, locating the individual struggling in the water.

Upon being deployed into the water, expert divers and rescue swimmers successfully secured the man, who was found alive but suffering from physical shock and the effects of the frigid early-morning water temperatures. Once safely aboard the rescue vessel, he received immediate first aid to stabilize his condition. The KFF units then transported him to Shuwaikh port, where he was handed over to awaiting Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for urgent clinical care and hospitalization.

The Kuwait Fire Force released a brief statement on Thursday, confirming the successful operation and reiterating that the individual had been stabilized at a local hospital.

The incident has sparked renewed conversations on social media regarding mental health support in the Gulf region. Local health advocates are praising the KFF for their rapid response while calling for increased monitoring and the installation of "help-line" signage across major landmarks like the Jaber Causeway to provide resources for those in crisis.
