Cities remember movement through engines and roads, but they also remember when movement turns uneasy. A stolen vehicle is more than missing metal; it interrupts workdays, routines, and the ordinary trust that keys will open what was left behind. In Victoria, police say one investigation has traced that disruption across multiple towns.
Victoria Police announced that a 29-year-old Shepparton man has been charged following the alleged theft of seven vehicles during March and April, including an unmarked police vehicle. The case spans Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Police allege two Kia Stinger sedans were stolen on March 22 from Warrandyte and Dandenong. Additional vehicles allegedly taken later included a Chevrolet utility from Kialla and a Holden Calais from Clyde.
Authorities further allege that an unmarked police Kia Sorento was stolen from a Shepparton car dealership where it had been taken for servicing. That detail drew particular attention because the vehicle belonged to law enforcement.
Investigators also allege a Toyota HiLux was stolen during an aggravated burglary in Echuca, where cash, keys, and personal items were reportedly taken. A Ford Falcon from Orrvale was listed as the seventh vehicle.
Police said most of the vehicles had been recovered, with the Ford Falcon still outstanding at the time of the statement. Recoveries can ease losses, though vehicles are often returned with damage or after prolonged disruption.
The accused man was arrested in Kialla on April 16 and charged with multiple offences, including seven counts of theft of motor vehicle, along with drug, weapons, deception, and bail-related allegations.
He was remanded in custody to appear before Shepparton Magistrates’ Court. As with all criminal matters, the charges remain allegations until tested in court.
The case now moves from roadways to the courtroom, where evidence rather than headlines will carry the journey forward. Police inquiries may continue as authorities seek the remaining vehicle.
