SHIVPURI, MADHYA PRADESH — A wave of public fury has erupted in Shivpuri following a harrowing road incident involving the son of a prominent BJP lawmaker. On Thursday evening, April 15, 2026, a Mahindra Thar allegedly driven by Dinesh Lodhi—son of Pichhore MLA PritamLodhi—plowed into five people, including three men on a motorcycle and two women pedestrians.
The incident, which occurred in the Karera area around 7:30 PM, has shifted from a traffic accident into a major political scandal due to the driver’s confrontational behavior immediately following the crash.
According to local police reports, the high-speed SUV, which reportedly bore a "Vidhayak" (MLA) sticker but no official registration plate, first struck a motorcycle from behind. The three riders—identified as Sanjay, Ashish, and AnshulParihar—were thrown from the bike.
Continuing its path, the vehicle then struck two women, SitaVerma and Pooja Soni, who were walking along the same stretch of road. Witnesses rushed the injured to a nearby hospital, where Sanjay Parihar is reportedly in serious condition with severe injuries to his head and limbs.
Public anger intensified after mobile footage from the scene went viral. In the video, the MLA’s son is seen in a heated argument with bystanders and the victims themselves. Instead of offering assistance, Lodhi was filmed blaming the victims for the collision.
"I was using the siren and honking; why didn't they move away?" Lodhi is heard saying in the clip. "Three people were sitting on the bike and were swerving."
Witnesses further alleged that Lodhi threatened those filming the aftermath, warning them of consequences if the footage was shared.
The Karera Police have registered a case against Dinesh Lodhi under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash and negligent driving endangering human life. While the offense is currently bailable, investigators are looking into the victim's statements to see if more severe charges, including criminal intimidation, are warranted.
MLA PritamLodhi has attempted to distance himself from the controversy, issuing a statement on social media urging the police to act impartially.
"For a public representative, the public comes first, not family," the MLA stated. "The victims must get justice, and the law must take its course."
The incident has sparked a broader debate regarding the "VIP culture" and the perceived immunity of political families in the region. Opposition leaders and local activists have organized vigils, demanding that the investigation not be influenced by the driver's political connections.
