LOGAN SOUTH — A family is living a nightmare today after a toddler was left fighting for life following a savage dog attack at a residence south of Brisbane late Thursday night, May 7, 2026. Emergency crews worked frantically at the scene to stabilize the young child before rushing them to surgery under a police escort.
The incident occurred shortly after 11:30 PM at a private property in the Logan area. Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) was called to the home following reports that a two-year-old boy had been severely mauled by a large domestic dog, described by neighbors as a mixed-breed bull terrier.
Police officers arrived first and were forced to secure the animal in a separate room while paramedics reached the child. "It was a highly distressing scene for everyone involved, including our first responders," a QAS spokesperson said. "The injuries were extensive and life-threatening."
The toddler sustained deep lacerations and significant trauma to his neck, chest, and face. After being stabilized by a high-acuity response team on-site, he was transported to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.
Medical staff confirmed the boy underwent several hours of emergency reconstructive surgery early Friday morning. He remains in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in a stable but critical state, with his parents keeping a vigil by his bedside.
Logan City Council animal control officers seized the dog involved in the attack early this morning. The animal is currently being held at a council pound pending a formal investigation. It is understood the dog belonged to the family and had no prior history of reported aggression.
Detectives from the Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) were at the home throughout the morning, though police have indicated the incident appears to be a "tragic domestic accident." The quiet suburban street remains in shock as news of the attack spread. Neighbors described the family as "lovely" and the dog as usually being kept behind a high fence.
"You never think something like this will happen next door," one neighbor said. "We just heard the sirens and saw the lights. We are all praying that little boy pulls through."
