GUWAHATI, India — A wave of grief has swept through the Mandakata Commando Battalion camp in Assam’s Baihata Chariali following the tragic death of a female trainee commando on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Aparna Pandit, a resident of Bokajan in the Karbi Anglong district. Pandit was part of an elite training cohort when the incident occurred, sending shockwaves through the battalion and the local community.

According to preliminary reports from camp officials, Pandit was found unresponsive on Wednesday morning. While the exact motive for the act remains under investigation, police sources confirmed the recovery of a suicide note near her body.

The Baihata Chariali Police have officially registered a case and initiated a thorough probe into the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.

"We have initiated an investigation to ascertain the facts. Preliminary evidence suggests the trainee may have been under severe mental stress prior to the incident," a local police official stated.

The training camp, known for its rigorous physical and mental demands, is now under scrutiny as investigators look into whether departmental pressures or personal grievances contributed to Pandit's distress.

Following the completion of necessary legal and medical formalities, Pandit’s mortal remains were transported to her native home in Karbi Anglong.
