The impact was devastating; one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The incident took place just as crowds were beginning to peak for the popular fan convention. Witnesses described a scene of sudden chaos as the vehicle swerved onto the nature strip and path.

"A silver-grey car just sped past and then suddenly mounted the kerb," one witness reported. "There was no time for people to get out of the way. It was a terrifying moment in a place that was supposed to be full of families and fans."
