DNIPRO, Ukraine – A devastating Russian missile strike targeted a highway in Dnipro on Tuesday morning, April 14, 2026, leaving at least four civilians dead and 25 others wounded. The attack, which struck during the morning commute, turned a busy transit route into a scene of carnage, with investigators confirming that all victims were non-combatants traveling in their personal vehicles.

The Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration and the Office of the Prosecutor General have launched a war crimes investigation into the incident, which they described as a deliberate strike on civilian infrastructure.

The strike occurred as traffic was speaking on one of the city's main highways. Witnesses described a sudden, massive explosion that sent debris flying and set several cars ablaze.

According to Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the regional military administration, the missile hit the roadway directly and impacted a line of civilian cars. Footage released by the National Police later revealed the devastating aftermath, showing several vehicles reduced to twisted metal with shattered glass and shrapnel littering the asphalt for hundreds of meters.

First responders arrived to find a scene of intense devastation. Emergency crews worked to extinguish vehicle fires and extricate survivors from the wreckage.

Four civilians were pronounced dead at the scene, with initial reports from the Office of the Prosecutor General indicating they were occupants of the vehicles struck by the primary blast. Of the 25 wounded, 21 have been hospitalized, including 10 individuals in serious condition suffering from shrapnel wounds, mine-blast traumas, and complex fractures.

Beyond the human toll, the missile caused significant damage to the local transport network and surrounding civilian buildings.

The powerful shockwave from the strike caused broken windows and structural damage to nearby commercial facilities. This attack on Dnipro was part of a broader morning assault that included drone strikes on critical infrastructure in Kryvyi Rih; while no casualties were reported in the latter, the drones ignited a fire at a local energy facility.

Ukrainian officials have condemned the strike as an act of "deliberate terror" against the population of Dnipro. The Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office has opened a criminal case under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, focusing on the violation of the laws and customs of war.

"These were peaceful citizens going about their daily lives," a spokesperson for the National Police stated. "There are no military targets in the immediate vicinity of this highway. This was an attack on the people of Dnipro."

As of Tuesday afternoon, emergency services remain on-site clearing the debris, and traffic in the area has been indefinitely diverted. Local authorities are urging residents to heed all air raid sirens as the threat of follow-up strikes remains high.
