KOLASIB, Mizoram – A pall of gloom has descended over the town of Kolasib following a harrowing discovery in a local residence. A 14-year-old girl was found dead, while her mother and younger brother were discovered unconscious in what authorities are describing as a "deeply mysterious and tragic" incident.

The discovery was made early Tuesday morning when neighbors became concerned after the family failed to emerge from their home at their usual hour. After receiving no response to repeated knocks, local residents alerted the authorities.

Upon entering the premises, first responders found the teenage girl lying lifeless in her bed. In the adjacent room, her mother and 10-year-old brother were found in a state of deep unconsciousness. While the girl was pronounced dead at the scene, the two survivors were immediately rushed to the Kolasib District Hospital in critical condition.

Medical officials have since transferred the mother and son to a more specialized facility in Aizawl as they remain unresponsive to initial treatments.

Local police have cordoned off the residence as forensic teams sweep the area for clues. While the official cause of the tragedy remains undetermined, investigators are focusing on several key possibilities, including carbon monoxide poisoning from faulty heating appliances or charcoal burners.

Additionally, authorities are analyzing samples from the family's last meal to rule out accidental food poisoning and examining the home’s ventilation for potential environmental factors or chemical leaks.

The 14-year-old was a well-known student at a local secondary school, described by teachers as a bright and promising young girl. "The entire neighborhood is in shock," said a local community leader. "We are praying for the recovery of the mother and the little boy. It is a heartbreak no family should have to endure."

A senior police official in Kolasib stated that a "Suo Moto" case has been registered to facilitate a thorough investigation. "We are awaiting the post-mortem report of the deceased and the medical reports of the survivors to get a clearer picture of what transpired," the official added.

The district administration has urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified rumors on social media out of respect for the grieving family and the ongoing investigation.
