PALAWAN, Philippines — A routine flight through one of the Philippines’ most scenic regions ended in disaster on Thursday, April 2, 2026, as a light aircraft plummeted into a grassy field shortly after takeoff, leaving two crew members feared dead.

Taking off from Francisco B. Reyes Airport at approximately 11:39 a.m. local time, the Baron light plane struggled to maintain altitude before plunging into a remote area just minutes after departure. Witnesses in nearby Barangay Decalachao reported the aircraft’s erratic flight path shortly before it went down in a grassy field roughly 9 kilometers from the airport.

Although an official statement from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is still pending, initial reports from first responders and local residents—who were the first to reach the mangled wreckage—indicate that both the pilot and the co-pilot did not survive the violent impact.
