ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LOUISIANA – A quiet Sunday morning was shattered by an act of unprecedented domestic violence that has left a local community reeling and eight children dead. Authorities have taken a 43-year-old male into custody following a multi-hour standoff at a rural residence, marking one of the state's most harrowing mass casualty events in recent memory.

Deputies from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at approximately 7:15 a.m. local time on April 19, 2026 from a woman claiming she had been shot and that her children were in imminent danger. Upon arrival, officers were met with heavy gunfire coming from inside the home, forcing them to establish a perimeter and activate SWAT and crisis negotiation teams.

After three hours of negotiations, the suspect surrendered without further incident. However, the scene discovered inside was described by Sheriff Randy Smith as "soul-crushing." Seven of the suspect’s biological children and one family relative—ranging in age from 4 to 16—were found deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
