When the Numbers Arrive, Michigan’s Digital Tables Are Still Busy

Some industries grow loudly. Others do so in smaller increments — a number here, a monthly record there — until one morning the figures begin to suggest something larger.

That was the case in Michigan, where the state’s internet gaming market posted stronger-than-expected March results, continuing a steady upward trajectory that has reshaped the economics of regulated digital wagering.

According to the Michigan Gaming Control Board, commercial and tribal operators reported a combined $372.1 million in gross receipts from online gaming and sports betting in March. That marked an 18.9% increase from February.

The strongest driver remained internet casino gaming. iGaming alone generated $322.1 million in gross receipts, the highest monthly figure on record in the state and above the previous high reached in December 2025.

Online sports betting also contributed meaningfully, with gross receipts of $50 million. Betting handle — the total amount wagered — climbed to $485.1 million, showing that player participation remained active even outside the peak football calendar.

The numbers also carried fiscal significance. Operators submitted more than $60 million in taxes and payments to the state and local governments, reinforcing how online gambling has become not merely a consumer trend but a notable public revenue source.

Michigan has emerged as one of the most closely watched regulated gaming markets in the United States. Since legalization, the state has steadily joined New Jersey and Pennsylvania among the largest U.S. online gaming jurisdictions.

Part of the resilience lies in the product mix. Internet casino gaming tends to generate more stable revenue than sports betting, which can fluctuate more sharply with seasonal sports calendars and customer outcomes.

Analysts caution that one month does not define a long-term curve. Yet repeated records tend to change expectations. What once looked like unusually strong growth increasingly begins to resemble the market’s new baseline.

For now, the figures are straightforward. Michigan’s online gaming market has again outperformed forecasts, and the state’s digital wagering economy continues to expand with more consistency than surprise.
